Gotta say, veloren has some cool aspects.
-The gliding is pretty sweet
the weather and clouds are excellent
skyships
terrain gen is awesome
flowing rivers
movement feels good
climbing is neat
dodgeroll is cool
Some things I've found confusing;
The crafting is a little confusing. Very back and forth, where do I get new recipes?
Chest loot seems entirely arbitrary (in caves at least, haven't opened many others).
The villagers attacked me, then spawn camped me for a bit??
Melee seems bad? Might just need better armour, but the swing area feels very small as well. Hard to tell why I'm missing.
Jumping off a wall shouldn't send you quite so far, it's very far, maybe a slight delay between climbing and being able to jump off would be good.
can mine some blocks but not others?
